Who will win the August All Africa Poker Tournament?

With just two days left until the August R3,500,000 All Africa Poker Tournament kicks off, excitement is mounting as to who will take the Million Rand 1st place pot.  After the exceptional performance of the Southern African team at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas last month, both the local and international poker community will be watching with interest to see how players fair at this tournament.

Taking place at Piggs Peak Casino, Swaziland from 20 - 23 August 2009, the All Africa Poker Tournament is expecting a healthy turnout with some of the continent’s top players vying for the title. Ray Rahme, Nicolas Zakhem, Darren Kramer, Jarred Solomon and Ryan Brauer are just some of the names being thrown around as the next All Africa Poker Tournament champion. And their credentials are testament to their popularity amongst local poker fans.

  • Ryan Brauer : Currently ranked No. 5*, Brauer was runner up at the February 2007 All Africa Poker Tournament and placed 500th in the WSOP Main Event in July 2009. He is defending champion of the 2009 Emperors Palace R1 million Heads-Up Challenge and also winner of the Emerald Poker Series 2009.
  • Darren Kramer : Currently ranked No. 6*. He is the August 2008 All Africa Poker Champion and winner of the 2008 South Africa Poker Open.
  • Nicolas Zakhem : Currently ranked No. 24*, Nic is the defending All Africa Poker Champion and also placed 7th at the 2009 Lebanese Poker Championship.
  • Jarred Solomon : Currently ranked No. 85*. Solomon has made the final table at the All Africa Poker Tournament on several occasions. He is also the winner of the $1,000 H.O.R.S.E at Aussie Millions in 2009.
  • Ray Rahme : Currently ranked No. 2* in South Africa, Rahme will be the highest ranked player in this event. Rahme made the 2008 WSOP final table and is also the May 2008 All Africa Poker Champion

* Rankings are based on the BLUFF SA Poker Player Ranking system.

All Africa Poker is giving poker fans the opportunity to win R5,000 by voting online at www.allafricapoker.com for the player they think will progress the furthest in the tournament.  To watch some of their previous poker activity at the All Africa Poker tournament, viewers can log onto www.allafricapoker.tv to watch previous episodes in this new launched 24/7 video poker website.

These poker greats will be joined by at least another 100 other players, including Armand Steyn who won his seat to one of the richest poker tournaments in Africa through the All Africa Poker sms competition.

The final table will be played on Sunday 23 August in Piggs Peak Casino’s state of the art broadcast poker studio and recorded for broadcast on DSTV’s All Africa Poker Channel and The Poker Zone on e.tv. from October this year.
