All eyes are on South Africa’s Warren Zackey as he heads into Day 7 at the World Series of Poker 2009 (WSOP) in Las Vegas today. Zackey dropped from his overnight pole position as chip leader on Day 5 and finished off yesterday’s Day 6 on 1.4 million in chips, placing him in 50th position out of the 64 players remaining. Regardless of how Zackey fares today, Day 7 of the tournament, he is already guaranteed a minimum US$90,344 for his effort. Zackey is the second Southern African poker player to progress this far at WSOP. In 2007 Ray Rahme made it to the final table and took 7th place putting Southern Africa on the poker map and raising the profile of poker in the country. Zackey is the only member of the 32 strong Team All Africa Poker remaining in the tournament. The current chip leader starting Day 7 is Darvin Moon who leads with a healthy 9.7 million chip stack. Last year's WSOP Champion, Peter Eastgate, finished in 78th position. Day 7 and 8 will be played over a single day, concluding tomorrow, July 15. The final table will then resume play again on November 7 for the title of WSOP Champion. He won his seat to the WSOP Main Event through the All Africa Poker Tournament, when he placed 2nd in the May 2009 tournament held at Piggs Peak Casino in Swaziland.
