Robert KayThe Southern African form is changing at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) as Robert “Captain Crimson” Kay took 7th place in Event 56, earning himself a tidy US$100,230. Kay is the first Southern African player participating in this year’s WSOP to make it to the top 10 in a bracelet event.

Event 56, which had 928 starters, saw Kay make it to the final table after a gruelling two days of play. This was a phenomenal effort from Kay, who was only able to take enough time off work to fly to Las Vegas to participate in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em event.  An elated but exhausted Kay commented how difficult it had been competing against seasoned poker professionals from around the world who had the stamina to play long hours.  Kay was taken out by Matt Hawrilenko from the USA with an AH KC against his KH QS.  Board came 2D 3C KS 10H JS. Hawrilenko, currently ranked 102 on the Bluff-Espn Poker Ranking was the event winner and took home the bracelet.

Kay (29) is a seasoned poker player, having made it to the All Africa Poker Tournament’s final table four times. Kay came 7th in the Crown Aussie Millions Championship Team Event in 2007 and 7th at the Bellagio Cup in 2008.

Piggs Peak Casino, home of All Africa Poker has taken its team of 32 Southern African poker players to participate at the WSOP in Las Vegas this month.  Read about Kay’s success as well as how other team members are doing on the blog updates on the blog updates and video footage on the All Africa Poker website (http://www.allafricapoker.com/poker-blog.aspx ) following All Africa Poker on Twitter (http://twitter.com/allafricapoker ) and becoming an All Africa Poker fan on Facebook .
